Growing Stress Among Teens
Do adults really understand the expectations forced on teens in today’s century and the overwhelming pressure pushed on them?

By  Brittany Hoffman

Today’s teens everywhere are stressed!  Many circumstances lead to this stress, from the daily pressures to the overwhelming expectations of those around them.

Mr. Hunter thinks some of the problems teens face in the 21st century are  constant pressure to do well, drugs and alcohol, pressure from the media, parental conflicts, and the constant cultural change.

With the majority of today’s teens involved in some sort of after school activity, it is hard for them to find time for themselves.  Andrew Morse says he spends about five hours after school participating in some sort of school activity.

Mrs. Giacabone and Mr. Hunter believe they and other adults can relate to the problems facing teens, but teens completely disagree with this statement.

All of the students I interviewed agreed that at some point throughout their high school years, they have been overwhelmed with a class project or some sort of homework and teachers do not understand the many other activities they daily participate in.  Students teachers at CHS also agree that the pressure on teens today has increased greatly over the past years.

“Stress in today’s society is prevalent and you have to deal with it for happiness and success to evolve,” said Mr. Hunter.
