Students find ways to overcome school expenses
By Mary Fox
Students who are currently attending, or plan to attend a college or a university are finding expenses to be overwhelming, yet eventually affordable.
“Apply for as many scholarships as possible, and set up a ‘savings plan”, stated Becca, who is currently attending her final year at IUSB. Many students overlook the costs of their future. In addition to the rising cost of tuition, other expenses, such as food, clothing, rent, books, transportation, and numerous other miscellaneous circumstances which may bring forth unexpected debts, which may become overwhelming.
In preparation for the future, a number of students have applied for scholarships. Fastweb, an online program designed to get students easy access to scholarships and grants, is one major way students are situating finances. The FASFA form is also a substantial fund supplier. All students should complete the FASFA form, regardless of financial need. Any questions or concerns may be taken to student services coordinator Mrs. Logan.
The average cost of tuition for a four-year public school is $14,640 per year, and $30,295 for a private, four-year school per year. These already overwhelming costs are rising by five percent each year. Although every loan is different, a minimum monthly payment is expected from loan holders, and five years must be given, depending on the program, to pay back a loan.
“I have spoken with parents, grandparents, students attending colleges, and alumni about my future,” declared Emily, a current Constantine High School senior. It is necessary for anyone interested in success to prepare themselves by applying and discussing plans with family and or coordinators. Overall, financial success is everyone’s goal, and it realistically cannot be achieved without proper education beyond high school.
